The A.W. Smith Law Firm recently volunteered as a team on Thursday September 6th, 2012 at the Central Missouri Food Bank located on Vandiver Driver in Columbia, Missouri.

The A.W. Smith Law Firm worked together to bag thousands of pounds of hot dogs while sporting their new logo. It was a great team building experience as well as a perfect way to give their time to a worthy cause.

The A.W. Smith Law Firm believes that it is important to give back to the community. It is important that the public be educated about hunger and what everyone can do to help eliminate the problem. Together, the A.W. Smith Law Firm and the Central Missouri Food Bank are dedicated to fighting hunger.

How It Works:
In 2011, The Food Bank distributed over 28 million pounds of food and household products in our 32-county service area in Central and Northeastern Missouri. The Food Bank provides food and household products to serve people in need. The Food Bank develops partnerships with growers, processors, manufactures, wholesalers, retailers, and restaurants and encourages them to DONATE, not DUMP. The Food Bank then transports donated food and household products from local donors and from national donors affiliated with Feeding America to the warehouse located on Vandiver Drive.

Volunteers contributed more than 85,000 hours in 2011, equivalent to almost 43 full-time positions. At Missouri’s minimum wage, those combined hours were worth more than $610,000. Also in 2011, The Food Bank distributed a record 28 million pounds of food.

This Food Bank is one of the few food banks nationwide that does not charge for the food it provides.

What You Can Do:
Local individuals, businesses, places of worship, schools and civic organizations also donate non-perishable food and household products through community food drives.

The Food Bank can provide 11 meals for just $1.00. Every dollar you contribute to The Food Bank makes it possible to provide 15 pounds of food. Through empowerment, education and partnership The Food Bank brings together community resources to feed people in need. The Food Bank is committed to developing long-term solutions to ending hunger.
