Three-vehicle Crash Seriously Injures Four


In Jackson County, four people are seriously injured after the at-fault vehicle failed to merge onto the roadway and collided with oncoming traffic head-on.

On November 27, 2013 at approximately 3:20 p.m., Cialan Rhodes Hood, age 22 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri was operating a 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder along with passenger Kordero Williams, age 25 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Gordon Whitfill, age 71 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri was operating a 2006 Dodge Caravan along with his wife, Bonnie, age 69. Deloris Wilson, age 80 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri was operating a 2008 Ford Escape.

At that said date and time, Cialan Rhodes Hood and Deloris Wilson were traveling in the southbound direction while Gordon Whitfill was traveling in the northbound direction on I-470 and .1 miles south of 11.2 mile marker. The crash occurred as Deloris Wilson merged southbound onto I-470 and into the path of Cialan’s vehicle. Cialan collided with Deloris’ vehicle, crossed the median and then collided with Gordon Whitfill’s vehicle head-on.

Cialan Rhodes Hood, Kordero Williams, Gordon and Bonnie Whitfill all received serious injuries from the crash. They were transported by Lee’s Summit Fire and EMS District to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Deloris Wilson was uninjured and did not seek medical assistance. The crash report also indicates that Kordero Williams was the only participant involved in the crash to have not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Cialan’s 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder received total damages and was towed by GT Tow. Gordon Whitfill’s 2006 Dodge Caravan received total damages and was towed by Jim’s Towing. Deloris Wilson’s 2008 Ford Escape received minor damages and was driven from the scene of the crash.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway and with the assistance of Troop A, Lee’s Summit Police, and Lee’s Summit Fire and EMS District.
