On September 25, 2011 at approximately 1:04 p.m., Nicole Buffa, 19, from Lake St. Louis was operating a 2000 Lexus traveling in the westbound direction. Audra Synder, 43, and from Topeka, Kansas was operating a 2001 Chevrolet driving in the eastbound direction. Also traveling eastbound, 21 year old, Nathan Anderson was operating a 2008 Dodge on I-70.
At that same time and place, Nicole Buffa was traveling westbound on I-70 at the 134.6 mile marker and suddenly lost control of her vehicle causing it to travel off the left side of the roadway into the median. Nicole struck the median cable and continued through the median cable into the eastbound lanes of I-70. Nicole then struck eastbound vehicle, Audra Snyder, head-on in the passing lane. Debris from the vehicles of Nicole and Audra struck the third vehicle involved in this accident, Nathan Anderson, causing him vehicle damage.
The at-fault driver, Nicole Buffa, received serious injuries from this crash and was transported by ambulance to the University Hospital in Columbia. Victim, Audra Snyder, was also transported to the University Hospital in Columbia. Nathan received no injuries. Audra Snyder was pronounced deceased at 1352 hours by Dr. Kevin Bartow at the University Hospital in Columbia.
Nicole Buffa’s 2000 Lexus received total damages and was towed by Carl’s Towing in Columbia, Missouri. Fatality, Audra Snyder’s 2001 Chevrolet also received total damages and was towed by Carl’s Towing in Columbia. The debris from both Audra and Nicole’s vehicles caused minor auto damage for Nathan Anderson, he drove from the scene.
According to the Missouri State Highway Parol, Audra Snyder and Nathan Anderson were found to be wearing their seat belts, while Nicole Buffa was not.
With great sorrow from the Golden Retriever Nationals, Audra’s death removed her as a contestant on the eve of this event.
