Triple Fatality on Highway 22

In Audrain County, three people are killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer.

On August 31, 2012 at approximately 4:30 p.m., John Deak, age 21 and from Wellsville, Missouri was operating a 2004 Ford Focus and traveling in the eastbound direction of Missouri highway 22. Timothy Penrod, age 22, and 15-year-old Angela Conder were John’s passengers during the time of the crash. Jimmy Melner, age 52 and from Huntsville, Missouri was operating a 2001 International tractor-trailer and traveling in the westbound direction of Missouri highway 22.

At that said time and place, John Deak was traveling westbound on Missouri highway 22 near Centralia and just west of County Road 233 when the collision occurred. The crash happened when John Deak crossed the center line of the roadway and Jimmy Merlner’s tractor-trailer collided with his vehicle in the passenger side.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the threefatalities as John Deak, Timothy Penrod, and Angela Conder. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Audrain County coroner, Pat Farnan, and were transported to Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jimmy Melner was uninjured and did not seek medical attention.

John Deak’s 2004 Ford Focus received total damages from the crash and was towed by Carl’s Towing in Columbia, Missouri. Jimmy Melner’s 2001 International tractor-trailer received extensive damages from the crash and was towed by Carl’s Towing in Columbia, Missouri.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop F, Troop C Crash Team, and Audrain County Sheriff’s Department. This is Troop F’s 48th fatality for 2012.
