Two Fatalities Result from Crash in Cole County


When a Missouri man, Damien Bryan, fails to yield while crossing Route C in Jefferson City, three vehicles crash and two people are killed.

On August 31, 2001 at approximately 10:45 a.m., 40 year old Damien Bryan from Jefferson City, Missouri was operating a 1981 Ford-150 traveling northbound on RT C. At the same time and place, 75 year old Joan Hamilton from Lenexa, Kansas was operating a 2004 Lexus heading eastbound on RT C. Also traveling on RT C heading westbound was 58 year old Donald Edwards from Russelville, Missouri.

The crash occurred as Bryan was attempting to cross Route C and failed to yield to Hamilton, crashing Hamilton’s vehicle on the passenger side. Hamilton’s vehicle overturned and crashed into Edwards’s front driver’s side resulting in the fatalities of Hamilton and Edwards. All three drivers were wearing their safety belts.

The at-fault driver, Damien Bryan suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. Joan Hamilton was transported from the scene of the crash by EMS to Capital Regional Hospital and was there pronounced dead. Donald Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Deputy Rick Worthington and was transported by Millard Funeral Home to Capital Regional Hospital Morgue.

The vehicles of all three drivers were totaled and towed by Tow Pro.
