Two Killed In ATV Crash


In Carter County, both the driver and his passenger are killed after they crash their ATV.

On August 2, 2013 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Nathan Banks, age 35 of Hayti, Missouri was operating a 2013 Arctic Car 4-wheel ATV along with passenger Kelly McCulloch, age 35 of Steele, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Nathan was traveling in the westbound direction on County Road 127 and 2 miles west of Van Buren. The crash occurred as Nathan traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturning the ATV.

Kelly McCulloch was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Carter County coroner, Eric McSpadden, and then transported to McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren. Nathan Banks received serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to Cox Medical Center South in critical condition. Later he was pronounced dead by Dr. Ed Cunningham on August 3, 2013 as a result of his injuries from the crash.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kelly McCulloch was not wearing safety equipment while operating on the ATV and it is unknown if Nathan was or was not.

Nathan’s 2013 Arctic Cat 4-wheel ATV received extensive damages and was towed by Mike & Ike’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop G. This is Troop G’s 13th and 14th fatality for 2013.
