Two Missouri Residents Killed in Caldwell County

One driver, carrying an eighteen foot trailer, crossed over the centerline and hit another driver in a head-on collision, which resulted in his and his victim’s death on MO Hwy 116 in Caldwell County.

On November 28, 2011 at approximately 8:45 A.M., 66-year-old Hubert Swope from Braymer, Missouri was operating a 1997 Ford and heading eastbound on MO Hwy 116 three miles west of Braymer. At said time and place, 46-year-old Kenneth Debolt from Braymer, Missouri was heading westbound in a 1995 Ford van.

The crash occurred as Swope, pulling an 18 foot trailer, crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into Debolt in the westbound lane. Swope’s vehicle came to rest on its wheels near the area of impact in the eastbound lane facing west. Debolt’s vehicle came to rest on its wheels three feet from the road facing south.

Both drivers were killed and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Caldwell County Sheriff and transported to Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Missouri. Neither of the drivers had been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Swope’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Walker’s Towing of Maryville, Missouri. Debolt’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Scotty’s Towing of Cameron, Missouri.

This investigation was led by Corporal M. K. Allen, Sergeant J. H. Thompson, Corporal R. A. Sherman, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department and Braymer Fire and Rescue.
