Two Passengers Killed in Vehicle Collision

In Franklin County, two passengers from Villa Ridge were killed when the driver failed to stop at a traffic signal.

On June 29, 2013 at approximately 6:54 p.m., Joshua McFerrin, age 36 of St. Clair, Missouri was operating a 2000 Dodge Stratus along with passengers; Mitchell Mantels, age 56 of Villa Ridge, Missouri, Tarlton Stephens, age 46 of Villa Ridge, Missouri, and Shanna Wilken, age 30 of St. Clair, Missouri. Jo Knipe, age 60 of Robertsville, Missouri was operating a 2007 Ford Fusion along with passenger Kenneth Knipe, age 61 of Robertsville, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Joshua McFerrin was traveling in the westbound direction as Jo Knipe was traveling in the eastbound direction on westbound Highway 100 at Route M. The crash occurred as Joshua McFerrin entered the left turn lane on the highway and failed to stop at the traffic signal, turning into the path of eastbound driver, Jo Knipe. The front of Jo’s vehicle collided into the passenger side of Joshua’s vehicle.

Mitchell Mantels and Tarlton Stephens were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by EMS personnel and then transported to the St. Louis County Morgue by Russel Funeral Home. Shanna Wilken received serious injuries and was taken by air evacuation to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. Joshua McFerrin was moderately injured and Jo and Kenneth Knipe received minor injuries from the collision and they were taken by Meramec EMS to Mercy Hospital in Washington.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, none of the participants involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.

Joshua McFerrin’s 2000 Dodge Stratus and Jo Knipe’s 2007 Ford Fusion both received total damages from the crash and were towed by Sturm’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
