Two-vehicle Accident Results in Serious Injuries for One

In St. Francois County, one woman is seriously injured when the at-fault driver attempts to make a right turn from the left lane.

On September 1, 2011 at approximately 5:25 p.m., 16 year old Matthew Whaley, from Bonne Terre, Missouri was operating a 1999 Ford Taurus traveling in the northbound direction on US 67 at the St. Francois State Park Entrance. 69 year old, Karen Brooks, from De Soto, Missouri was operating a 2001 Ford Explorer traveling the northbound direction as well.

At that said time and place, Matthew was leaving the St. Francois State Park on US 67 at the entrance. Matthew attempted to make a left turn in the right lane. The left side of his vehicle struck into the right side of Karen Brook’s vehicle. After the impact, Karen Brooks travelled off the roadway, struck a stop sign and then continued to travel down a steep ravine where her vehicle came to a rest.

Karen Brook’s sustained serious injuries from this crash and was taken by air evacuation to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur to be treated for her critical condition. The at-fault driver, Matthew Whaley, did not seek medical attention.

Karen Brook’s 2001 Ford Explorer received total damage, while Matthew’s 1999 Ford Taurus received extensive damages. Both vehicles were towed by Buckley’s Towing.
