U.S. Highway 50 Car Crash is Cause of Fatality, Shirley Tran, 14, of Warrensburg.

Johnson County Missouri-

Teenager Shirley Tran, 14, of Warrensburg is dead, after a crash at Highway 50 and Missouri Route 131, in Johnson County, Missouri, Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened about four miles east of Powell Gardens at around 1:40 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol report states that a 32 year old woman, indentified as Mary E. Pierce from Odessa, Missouri, and a baby boy, were heading northbound along Missouri Route 131, when she failed to yield at Highway 50 and pulled out in front of a 2015 Toyota Corolla, traveling eastbound on Highway 50. The Corolla was driven by Loan Tran, 20, of Warrensburg.

It is suspected that Loan Tran is the older sister of Shirley Tran, who died in the crash. Also a passenger in the Toyota Camry, traveling with the two sisters, was Molly A. Towne, 20, also from Warrensburg.

Both Loan Tran and Molly Towne were seriously injured in the crash.

According to the MSHP report, Tran’s Camry struck the left rear of Pierce’s 2010 Dodge Avenger, due to Pierce’s failure to yeild. Both vehicles finally came to a stop after traveling into the median. Pierce’s Avenger, carrying the baby, also struck a road sign and utility pole in the median.

Troopers say 14 year old Shirley Tran of Warrensburg, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene, from injuries of the crash, by Johnson County coroner, C. L. Holdren.

The driver of the first vehicle also has serious injuries, the baby has minor injuries.

The report also stated that both drivers and all passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The injured parties were rushed to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri for treatment. Shirley Tran was transported to Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Missouri.
