Wellington Teen Killed in Head-on Collision

In Lafayette County, the driver of a vehicle dies after the he crossed the center line and collides head-on with another vehicle.

On January 9, 2013 at approximately 12:03 p.m., Trevor Bowling, age 18 from Wellington, Missouri was operating a 1998 Saturn. Candace Birkett, age 20 from Wellington, Missouri was the only passenger inside the Trevor’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Jamie Brooks, age 35 from Lexington, Missouri was operating a 2002 Nissan.

At that said date and time, Trevor Bowling was traveling in the westbound direction as Jamie Brooks was in the eastbound direction on US Highway 224 at West Giblin Hill Road. The collision occurred as Trevor crossed the center line and nearly collided head-on with Jamie’s vehicle. After impact, Trevor’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, collided with a guardrail, and then returned to the westbound lanes. Jamie’s vehicle overturned, traveled of the right side of the roadway, and then became fully engulfed in flames.

Trevor Bowling was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Campbell and Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington, Missouri. Candace Birkett received serious injuries from the collision and was transported by Life-Flight to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Jamie Brooks was moderately injured and transported by ambulance to Lafayette County Regional Hospital in Lexington, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all occupants involved in this crash were not wearing their seat belts.

Trevor Bowling’s 1998 Saturn received total damages and was towed by Wilkinson’s Tow. Jamie Birkett’s 2002 Nissan received total damages and was towed by R & S Tow.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A. This is Troop A’s 1st fatality and 1st fatality crash for 2013.
